A self-contained, offline-capable tool for weighing up ground-transport options across several places at once — on a phone, under pressure. Each place is a column, time runs down the side on a 24-hour scale, and reading across a row shows what is available everywhere at the same time of day.
How It Works
1. Add your places
The airports or cities you might arrive at or travel through. Each one becomes a column.
2. Lay out the options
The trains and buses that run from each place, with their times. They rarely change, so you enter them once.
3. Read across and decide
Look across the grid at the time you would arrive to see what you could catch, and where it would get you.
Why it works like this
This was built for a friend who often flies between the UK and Italy, to help her choose which flight to take based on the availability of ground transport at the other end. The flights open to her arrive at different airports at different times, and which of them actually works depends on what is still running when she gets there: which train, which bus, and whether they connect.
That is why the app is organised by place rather than by date. Trains and buses run to much the same timetable day after day, so she enters them once for each city she might land in — one column per place, with notes against anything that needs explaining. After that any arrival time can be read straight off the grid: look across at that hour to see what is still running and from where, and whether a train to one town and a bus onward from there join up into a way home. Entries carry a transport type for the same reason, because the comparison being made is a train against a bus against waiting for something later.
